Deck the Halls 2021

Written by Isabella Elshafei

Deck the Halls is a festive Centereach High School tradition where students compete in decorating the hallways as part of our yearly Class Competition. This beloved event never fails to create a sense of community among our students and holiday cheer before our winter break. This year, Deck the Halls featured the classes of 2022-2025.

Due to the circumstances of COVID-19, we were not able to celebrate the holiday spirit last year, but it’s exciting presence in December of 2021, allowed us to appreciate it all the more! Leading up to our Winter break, the CHS population was very grateful to have the opportunity to walk through halls full of Christmas merriment and wonder – all thanks to the creative minds of our students and staff.

In terms of the decorating competition, the Seniors finished in first place with their theme being “Gingerbread Town”. Close behind, the Sophomores finished in second with their theme of “Christmas in Hawaii”, and the Freshman in third with their “Peppermint Forest”. Finally, the Juniors finished in fourth with an Elf the movie inspired theme. As a Junior myself, our class focused on re-creating the movie, by hanging up famous quotes, paper snowflakes and of course, Buddy’s favorite meal from the movie, his special spaghetti.

Overall, getting back into the old traditions of Centereach cultivated some much-needed normalcy in our high school experience.
