On January 3rd, 2020, the greatest Senior Variety Show (from our point of view) premiered. Of course, we are biased, but thanks to months of preparation and laborious expeditions, Senior Night Live was a hit. Our theme was based off the critically acclaimed “Saturday Night Live” and began with a Saturday Night Live-esque opening. After about twenty acts of musical brilliance, hilarious comedy, and a glorious lip sync battles, the Senior Variety Show concluded.
Around sixty seniors participated in this special event, although some underclassmen did sound and lighting for the night. The hilarious CPR scene from NBC’s “The Office” was recreated on stage live. An original band performed the famous song “They Tryna be Cray” by Playboy Carti with a twist – kazoos were used to perform the instrumental part of the song. There were two teacher skits this year – Faculty Feud and Teachers Read Mean Tweets, two other skits heavily influenced by SNL.
It took a lot of energy out of us to perform in all of these acts and to manage everything as we were the hosts of the show, but it ended up being a lot of fun. We all had a lot of nervous energy right before the show started, but as it continued, we started to relax and began to enjoy ourselves in our acts. Prior rehearsals scared us, since it seemed obvious to us that we were not ready for the Friday night show, but it all came together in the end. We are all very proud of the result of the show. It was a tough journey, especially since we had to juggle Deck the Halls alongside it, but it did not stop us from doing our best work as a group and presenting our unity as a class
To the Class of 2021, good luck! This school year will be your final year of high school, so make the most out of it. It may have been stressful, but it was worth it in the end.
