Deck The Halls

How does one get into the holiday spirit? Well Centereach High School can answer that question by filling their halls with holiday decorations. Each year, students from each class participate to decorate their school right before the holiday break, putting the students and the staff in the holiday mood. According to the Senior Class Advisor, “Deck The Halls is really challenging because there is a lot of stuff happening all at once as each class is trying to get all the hallways finished, but in the end it is so much fun to walk the halls and see how the students came together to fix the problems and solve everything.” According to the other class advisors, the students have been preparing for this event since November, working until 4:00 p.m. everyday. “There would be a sum of 20-40 kids each day. Kids would come after extra help and before practice,” said Ms. Mazza, one of the Sophomore Class Advisors. Ms. Mazza continued to say that their theme was “Christmas in Hawaii.”

As it was their first year in the building, the Freshmen did a great job decorating their hall with the theme of  “Winter Wonderland,” while the Junior Class recreated the “Polar Express.” The Seniors celebrated their last year with a Disney inspired theme of  “A Christmas Carol.” There are major congratulations to be given to the Sophomore Class who earned FIRST PLACE in this event. “The kids were excited and surprised, believing that the Juniors would have come in first,” said Ms. Mazza. Final rankings were: The Juniors in Second Place, the Seniors in Third, and the Freshmen in Fourth. All of the students’ hard work was noticed and appreciated by all who entered the building and saw each of the first floor hallways decorated and filled with lights.  Thank you Centereach!
