Once again the Centereach Theatre Arts Department rivaled the Broadway stage as they performed another great show. The Arts Department put on four showings of the classic musical Grease, from Thursday March 29th to Saturday 30th, including one show for the annual Senior Tea, when the theater was opened up to the Middle Country senior citizens. The fact that the words “Go Greased Lightning!” could be heard echoing through the halls for days after and the show’s outstanding turnout speaks to its huge success. Friday night’s show sold out completely to an electric audience who was as animated as the cast.

The musical is centered around the life of ten teenagers who struggle to navigate their complex, drama-filled high school lives. The crowd cheered as Danny Zuko, played by Rob Montano, began singing “Greased Lightnin’” as he said, “Why, this car is auto-matic. It’s system-matic. Its hyyyyydro-matic. Why, it’s greased lightning!” Crowds were also in tears as Sandy, played by Alexa Oviedo, sang “Hopelessly Devoted to You”.  Main character Betty Rizzo’s lines, expertly delivered by Haley Ferrara, sparked a lively reaction from both the Friday and Saturday night audiences. Roger, played by Mike Shapiro, performed the song “Mooning,” and also had the crowd roaring!

The lights, colors, costumes, and rock and roll singing and dancing that characterized the 1950’s themed production dazzled viewers and left a lasting memory in each audience member’s mind. None of this could have been possible without the intensive efforts of all the students involved and the production staff, which included Director Brian Hough, Vocal Director and Producer Joan Miechner, Costume Designer Janna D’Andrea, Orchestra Director Lee Schaarschmidt, Choreographer Lisa Groshans, Technical Director Steven Uihlein, Cosmetology Teacher Laura Michaels and Teacher’s Assistant Marisa Ackerler, and Production Assistant Anna Rung. Congratulations to all for another outstanding production.
