Pops Concert Sets Stage for Winter Break

On Thursday, February 15, the Centereach High School music department blew away the audience yet again with its amazing musical talent. All groups from orchestra to band to chorus, left the audience speechless. The hard work and dedication that each and every one of the students put into practicing their music was very clear. As a student involved in philharmonic orchestra, I can say that it was an amazing experience. We started our performance, combined with the students in concert orchestra and played “See You Again” by Charlie Puth and “California Dreamin’.” Both pieces involved a great deal of drama and dynamic changes which the crowd enjoyed. Philharmonic Orchestra then did a piece without Concert Orchestra, called “Pirates of the Caribbean” but performed it with the Wind Ensemble. Everything from rhythm to tempo sounded perfect! Speaking of rhythm, I would like to thank our talented Drummer, Evan who kept the beat going not only in Pirates but also in the other two pieces played by the combined orchestra.

Like every year the music department awarded scholarships to select students who were deserving and showed a special interest as well as dedication to music. Megan Rutigliano, Austin Young and Timothy Burmeister were the three lucky winners in Philharmonic Orchestra who definitely deserved these scholarships as they have worked very hard over the years. As for chorus, we saw the talented Leandra Whalen, Lorenzo Jordan and Denise Dezendorf take home their scholarships. Lastly, Julia Prigil and Angela Parente won the band scholarships! Overall, it was a night to remember. Surely, it was a great start to the February break!
