The many talented musicians from Centereach High School gathered last week to perform their winter selections at a series of concerts. On Tuesday night, Part One of the concert season began, including groups such as Men’s Choir and Women’s Choir under the direction of Mr. Hough, the Centereach Concert Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Mrs. Wesnofske, the Jazz Ensemble directed by Mr. Schaarschmidt, and the Combined Concert and Symphonic Bands directed by Mr. Sevian. All of the groups performed impressive, talented, and gorgeous pieces that filled the room with the spirit of the season. The Thursday night concert finished the series with performances by various band, orchestra, and choral groups, concluding with a combined performance of “Hallelujah Chorus”. The combined Select and Advanced Chorus performed this piece along with the Full Orchestra with Ms. Verdi conducting. This song also invited Centereach High School alumni back to the stage to perform. This touching and empowering song combined with the joy of having graduated members of Centereach High School reuniting with friends and teachers truly ended the concert in a memorable way.
Winter Concert – Part 1
By: Naomi Newen
On the night of Tuesday, December 20, our Centereach High School musicians welcomed the holiday season in Part I of the two Winter Concerts taking place in 2016. The students’ hard work in preparation for this concert was admired as the audience watched and listened to their performances of wonderful and diverse pieces. The Men’s Choir performed first, followed by the Jazz Ensemble. As the stage was being prepared for the orchestra’s performance, the audience had a bundle of laughs as Diana Cook, the district’s Director of Music, shared some comical jokes and invited members of the audience to share some of their own as well. Then the Concert Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Women’s Choir, and Combined Concert & Symphonic Bands played for the rest of the concert. Overall, it was an enjoyable night for friends and families that came to support the performers.
**(Also, a big thank you to Mrs. Wesnofske, Mr. Schaarschmidt, Mr. Hough, and Mr. Sevian for guiding students so that CHS was able to have a successful concert!)
