Centereach Explodes Past Riverhead in Stunning 33-7 Victory. Next Stop–Round One Playoff Against North Babylon

By Kailey Podrang

This past Saturday was the senior game and the last game of the main season for Varsity football. However, the varsity football team made history by defeating the Riverhead Blue Waves 33-7. This win made their record 5-3 and gained them a spot in the playoffs for the first time in over a decade. Although Riverhead only had one win this season, the players knew it wasn’t certain that they would win. They played their hearts out and that is what they will continue to do as they continue their journey. Their next game will be this Saturday, 2:00 pm at North Babylon

Newsday reported the Centereach Cougar victory, which now sends our boys to the playoffs against North Babylon.  Quoting Newsday:

“Alec Kiernan ran 21 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns for Centereach (5-3). Shawn McFarland had seven carries for 65 yards and one touchdown, along with six tackles. Brandon Cunha had seven carries for 55 yards. He had a sack and made one interception. Jay Morwood was 4-for-8 with 73 yards and one touchdown. Kevin Amaya had six tackles, and Vinny Liotta added five in the win. Riverhead is 1-7. Centereach travels to North Babylon next week for a first-round contest.”
