Humans of Centereach Week 3

“I want to go into criminal profiling or investigative journalism. I think it’s always good to have an idea of what you want to do. I’ve always kind of been a good writer, and it’s always interested me. I think that’s really important. My mom is a teacher and my dad works for a phone company. They don’t really pressure me much into things so they’re okay with my choices. It’s just my mom’s really set on me getting a scholarship, either for academics or for sports. She doesn’t want me taking all these AP’s because she wants me to bring my GPA up but all my friends are taking these AP classes. So, yeah there’s pressure always, either from myself or my social circle. Some of my friend’s parents pressure them like crazy and I see it. I’m really lucky, though, to be in a household where there’s all this support and I know they have my best interest in mind. I do want to say this: I think to challenge yourself is the best thing you can do in your life, nothing is ever easy. For the longest time I always thought I was invincible, like I could take on anything. And I think that it’s great to think that of yourself, but you have to make sure that you’re okay. For me, this year is so much harder than it was last year and I remember I was having a really rough day and I just broke down and cried right in the middle of my ninth period class. And I realized I was just pushing myself too much and it’s okay to want to make time for yourself. It’s okay to not be able to handle it all.”
