National Honor Society’s European Handball Tournament Raises Competition and Money for Excellent Cause

On Saturday February 28, more than 150 Centereach High School students filled the gym to participate in the annual European Handball Tournament, sponsored by the National Honor Society.  This event attracts a cross-section of the student body which includes our top athletes and most involved students, along with some students who generally don’t engage in community service events.

Although it was a long day, the level of intensity never waned!   Between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm, 19 teams engaged in nearly 200 games, while their parents and peers cheered them on.  Following a dramatic playoff round, the members of Team White were awarded camouflage championship shirts.

In addition to being a fun-filled day, the event was a charitable one. This year, proceeds raised will be donated to the family of Matt Lewis.

The success of this event could not have been possible without the support of others.  The National Honor Society would like to thank Ken Budd and Mike Herrschaft for providing us with the resources of the PE Department; Jimmy, Walter and the custodial staff for their tireless efforts throughout the day; and Joy and Dina for helping us coordinate this event through Student Activities.
